Microneedling works by encouraging your skin to make more collagen. The pinpricks from the procedure cause slight injury to the skin and the skin responds by making new collagen-rich tissue. This new skin tissue is more even in tone and texture. It’s common for the skin to lose collagen with age or injury. By encouraging the skin to make new tissue, additional collagen may help make the skin firmer. BENEFITS OF MICRONEEDLING • Stimulates Collagen Production • Brighten Dull Looking Skin • Improve Signs of Aging and Fine Lines • Diminish Appearance of Large Pores • Repair Solar Damaged Skin • Repair Hyperpigmentation • Evens Skin Tone and Texture • Improve Light to Mild Acne • Diminish the Appearance of Scarring, Keratosis, and Stretch Marks HOW OFTEN SHOULD ONE GET TREATMENTS? Microneedling can be done once to upkeep skin and give a great facial for those who just want fresher skin or if you are targeting a specific issue, a series of treatments is recommended. Although a single session may give an improvement, the best results are achieved with 3-6 sessions. Treatments should not be done sooner than 6 weeks in between each procedure, and clients should never exceed 8 treatments annually. PRIOR TO PROCEDURE • No exfoliating products 24 hours prior • Skin should be close to natural colour – no sun exposure 24 hours prior • Come with a clean face and free of all makeup • No botox 4 week prior and 2 weeks after • No active rosacea or acne – if a breakout occurs prior to appointment contact the technician. • Don’t wax the area or use hair removal creams for 5-7 days before the treatment. • Don’t use retinol, acids, mechanical and chemical exfoliation, topical antibiotics, and similar harsh products on the area for 5-7 days before the treatment – these thin out the skin and make it more sensitive. WHAT TO EXPECT IMMEDIATELY AFTER REDNESS Your skin will be red for several hours after the procedure, and it will gradually fade to a pink, and finally subside. Redness is expected for about a day for the microneedling facial, but it can last up to 7 days on different areas of the body. TENDERNESS Some tenderness is expected in the hours after the procedure. HEAT Most clients report their skin feels hot in the days after the procedure. TIGHTNESS, DRYNESS, SKIN DEHYDRATION In the days after the treatment, your skin will feel tight and dry, much like a sunburn. You can relieve this discomfort with prescribed moisturizers. POSSIBLE SWELLING You may notice some minor swelling in the treated area, but it should subside within a day or 2. POSSIBLE BRUISING Minor bruising may emerge, but it will go away within 5-7 days. AFTER CARE • Use distilled water for 24 hours to rinse treatment area (bottled water works) • Keep treatment area moisturized • Don’t put ice or any cold compress onto the area. • Don’t pick at, scratch, or rub the area. • Don’t touch the area with unclean fingers or any other unsterile surface for as long as possible to prevent infection. • No makeup for 48 hours • Apply a broad spectrum UVA / UVB sunscreen (chemical free) daily for 2 weeks after • No exfoliation products, Vitamin C, Vitamin A or any “active” skincare for 1 week • No sunlight exposure for 1 week • No swimming, hot tubs, Jacuzzis for 1 week • No sweating or strenuous activity for 48 hours and avoid gyms for 72 hours post treatment DO NOT BOOK IF YOU HAVE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING CONTRAINDICATIONS: • Extensive telangiectasia • Active rosacea • Bacterial, fungal or viral infections • Open lesions • Skin rashes • Burns • Active acne • Use of acutane or currently on chemotherapy • Photosensitive medications • Immediately after a face lift (1 year) • Pregnant or nursing • Cold sores • Cosmetic injections (4 weeks) • Laser hair removal (2 weeks)
